1984 Townsville The inaugral event - 15,000 attended the Opening Ceremony
1986 Mount Isa Over 6,500 participants, recording Mount Isa's first ever traffic jam (seriously!)
1988 Cairns Coincided with Australia's Bicentennial
1990 Mackay Supported by Suncorp, starting a 20-year relationship as Major Sponsor
1992 Townsville 4x Olympic Gold Medallist Dawn Fraser was the NQ Games Special Guest
1994 Mount Isa The Baby Animals performed at the Opening Ceremony in front of 10,000
1996 Cairns 30 Cyclists carried the Games Torch from Mount Isa to Cairns 1200 kms
1998 Mackay Included a cycling event with a $7000 prize pool
2000 Townsville Natalie Cook was one of several Olympians competing mere months before taking out Olympic medals at Sydney 2000
2002 Mount Isa The final edition of the NQ Games in Mount Isa. The Western Games would replace the void of competition in the next decade
2004 Cairns 3559 Competitors, despite torrential rain cancelling some sports on the weekend
2006 Mackay Wallabies coach John Connolly attended the Suncorp Rugby 7s event
2008 Townsville Special Guest Shane Webcke
2010 Cairns The Men's and Women's Open 1500m events were held during the Opening Ceremony
2012 Mackay Closing Ceremony took place at Halftime of the Storm v Bulldogs NRL Games (which would be the Grand Final matchup later that year)
2014 Townsville 45+ Sports
2016 Cairns Gold Medallist Jon Sieben was special guest
2018 Mackay Games Ambassadors included Rugby League World Cup winning Captain Renae Kunst and Olympic Gold Medallist Linda Single
2022 Townsville 40 Sports & 4349 competitors back out and competiting after initial postponement in 2020
2024 Cairns & Surrounds 20 Sports and 1800 competitors despite ongoing Disaster Recovery post- Tropical Cyclone Jasper
